The New York Rangers are facing growing urgency to lock in a contract extension with promising forward Will Cuylle, who is set to become a restricted free agent on July 1. Despite his breakout potential and value to the franchise, Cuylle remains unsigned, raising concerns among fans and analysts alike.

According to Peter Baugh of The Athletic, contract discussions between the team and Cuylle have taken place, but it’s unclear how far along those talks have progressed or what’s preventing an agreement.

If a deal isn’t finalized before the deadline, Cuylle could attract significant interest around the league as an offer-sheet candidate  with New York Post columnist Larry Brooks identifying him as one of the most appealing RFA targets, alongside Toronto’s Matty Knies. Although the Rangers would have the right to match any offer, the risk of outside teams swooping in adds pressure to get a deal done swiftly.

With offer sheets becoming more common in today’s NHL landscape, all eyes are now on Rangers president and GM Chris Drury to ensure Cuylle remains in New York for the foreseeable future.
