TRANSFER NEWS: Rangers Close in on First Two Russell Martin Signings as Celtic Eye More Familiar Faces

The summer transfer window is heating up across the Scottish Premiership, with Rangers, Celtic, Livingston, and Hearts all active in reshaping their squads ahead of the new season.

Rangers Near Double Swoop to Kick Off Russell Martin Era

Rangers are on the verge of securing two key signings under new manager Russell Martin, marking a strong statement of intent at Ibrox.

  • Max Aarons, Bournemouth’s highly-rated right-back, arrived in Glasgow on Tuesday to finalise a season-long loan deal. The 23-year-old, who has Premier League and Championship experience, is expected to be unveiled in the coming days.
  • Conor Coady, the 32-year-old England international, is also reportedly close to joining. Coady is set to leave Leicester City following their relegation, and Rangers are believed to be negotiating a cut-price transfer for the centre-back, who is entering the final year of his contract.

Additionally, Rangers have been linked with:

  • Owen Beck (Liverpool) A potential permanent deal is being explored for the 22-year-old Welsh left-back, who impressed at Dundee and spent last season on loan at Blackburn.
  • Kwame Poku (Peterborough) The Ghana international winger is attracting attention from both Rangers and EFL Championship clubs after tallying 12 goals and 8 assists last season.

Celtic Continue to Welcome Familiar Faces Back to Parkhead

Celtic appear to be embracing a trend of reunions this summer:

  • Shaun Maloney is tipped to return in a key coaching role, replacing Darren O’Dea who left to join Swansea City’s backroom staff. Maloney, a former Celtic player and coach, would take over the Professional Player Pathway Manager position.

This follows earlier returns from:

  • Kieran Tierney, who rejoined from Arsenal on a free.
  • Jota, who returned in January from Rennes.
  • Ross Doohan, a former academy graduate, who also made a comeback.

On the recruitment front:

  • Celtic have reportedly agreed a £1.3 million deal for Benjamin Nygren, the Swedish winger from FC Nordsjælland.
  • The club is also eyeing a loan move for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.
  • Meanwhile, Nicolas Kühn could be heading out, with RB Leipzig said to be in advanced talks over a £15 million return deal.

Livingston Strengthen Midfield with Sylla Signing

Livingston have confirmed the addition of Mohamed Sylla on a three-year deal. The French midfielder, who most recently played for Dundee, becomes David Martindale’s seventh signing of the summer.

Hearts Land Kazakhstan Star on Pre-Contract

Hearts have secured the pre-contract signing of Islam Chesnokov, a 25-year-old winger from Tobol Kostanay. However, due to his current contract running until October, a fee will be needed to bring him in before January.

Manager Derek McInnes confirmed discussions are ongoing and he hopes to fast-track the move if possible.

Additionally, a decision on club captain Lawrence Shankland’s future is expected in the coming days, with interest in the striker continuing to swirl.

Stay tuned for more as the Scottish clubs continue to build towards the 2025/26 campaign.
