Confirmed: Shrewsbury Town Seal Deal for Wrexham Defender Will Boyle
Shrewsbury Town have officially agreed a deal to sign Wrexham centre-back Will Boyle, Football Insider can exclusively confirm. The 29-year-old defender is set to make the switch after Shrewsbury beat Gillingham to secure his signature in a permanent move.
The deal is expected to be finalized within days, with Boyle scheduled to undergo a medical after agreeing personal terms with the League Two side.
Boyle Heads for Fresh Start After Injury Setbacks
Boyle struggled to break into Phil Parkinson’s squad last season, failing to make a single league appearance during Wrexham’s historic promotion-winning campaign to the Championship. Limited to just one outing in the EFL Cup and two in the EFL Trophy, Boyle spent most of the season sidelined due to a persistent calf injury.
With his game time virtually nonexistent in the latter half of the campaign, Wrexham have opted to let the Scotsman leave as they reshape the squad for second-tier football.
A Move to Reignite His Career
Boyle, who made his name during a successful spell at Cheltenham Town, also counts Huddersfield Town, Kilmarnock, and York City among his former clubs. His move to Shrewsbury offers a much-needed opportunity for regular football as he looks to get his career back on track under new boss Michael Appleton.
Shrewsbury, who endured a difficult 2024/25 season and finished bottom of League One, are aiming for a swift return to the third tier and view Boyle as a key defensive addition to help rebuild the squad.

In other League One transfer news, Burton Albion have agreed a deal to sign Blackpool striker Jake Beesley on a two-year contract. The 28-year-old forward joins after starting just three league games last season under Steve Bruce, although he did make 19 substitute appearances.
Burton saw off interest from multiple clubs in both League One and Two to secure Beesley’s signature, hoping the ex-Salford and Rochdale striker can add firepower to their frontline for the 2025/26 campaign.
