Bournemouth defender Max Aarons is currently in Glasgow to finalise a season-long loan move to Rangers, as reported by Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam. The right-back has already completed his medical and is now working through the final paperwork before the move is confirmed. An official announcement is expected soon.
The deal is a straightforward loan with no additional clauses reported at this stage. Aarons is set to reunite with new Rangers manager Russell Martin, whom he previously played alongside at Norwich City. This marks one of the first moves to support Martin’s rebuild as the club looks to mount a serious challenge for the Scottish Premiership title.
Aarons, who has nearly 100 Premier League appearances, spent the latter part of last season on loan at Valencia and is not in Bournemouth’s plans moving forward. His versatility to cover both full-back positions will add valuable depth to the squad, offering competition for captain James Tavernier.
Following a trophyless campaign and finishing 17 points behind Celtic, Rangers are aiming for significant upgrades this summer. Chairman Andrew Cavenagh seems ready to invest, backing Martin in his first transfer window after beating out Davide Ancelotti for the managerial job. While Martin brings vital experience from his time at Southampton, turning Rangers into title contenders may take more than one transfer window.
