Rangers’ pursuit of Conor Coady has hit a temporary pause, with the England international delaying a decision on his future while two Premier League clubs reportedly prepare to compete with the Ibrox side for his signature.
The 32-year-old centre-back, who has one year remaining on his Leicester City contract, is a top target for Rangers, with Sky Sports reporting the club’s strong interest. However, any immediate move is on hold as Coady takes on a punditry role with DAZN for the FIFA Club World Cup. He joined ex-Premier League players Juan Pablo Angel and Luis Garcia to provide analysis during Real Madrid’s match against Pachuca, where his commentary impressed fans with insights particularly around Trent Alexander-Arnold’s impact at Madrid following his high-profile move from Liverpool.
Coady’s commentary highlighted his football intelligence something that would be valuable in Russell Martin’s tactical plans, especially with the emphasis on modern, attack-minded full-backs.
Meanwhile, Rangers are also working hard behind the scenes to keep hold of midfielder Nicolas Raskin, who is attracting serious attention from Premier League sides Aston Villa and Wolves. Unai Emery is reportedly keen to bring the Belgian to Villa Park, potentially pairing him with Tielemans and Onana.
However, Wolves have also been monitoring Raskin for over 18 months. According to the Daily Record, newly promoted Wolves recruitment chief Matt Jackson views Raskin as ready for the Premier League, and the player remains high on the club’s list of targets. In response, Rangers sporting director Kevin Thelwell is believed to be preparing a lucrative contract offer in a bid to extend the 24-year-old’s stay at Ibrox.
Still, if Raskin opts against renewing, Rangers may be forced to listen to offers despite their intent to keep him as a key part of the squad.
