Two significant developments have emerged from Leicester City as the club reshapes its squad following relegation. One involves a potential breakthrough for a homegrown midfielder, while the other points to the likely departure of a high-priced defensive signing.
Hamza Choudhury Poised for Bigger Role at Leicester
Midfielder Hamza Choudhury could be set for a larger role in the upcoming Championship campaign. Known for his grit and tenacity, Choudhury’s work rate and versatility may prove invaluable as Leicester look to rebuild with a tighter budget due to Profit and Sustainability constraints.
While he’s yet to fully cement his place at the King Power, this could finally be his opportunity. Writing for The Athletic, Rob Tanner noted:
“Choudhury’s versatility and ability at Championship level could mean he has a prominent role for Leicester in the campaign to come, especially if there is the expected clear-out of some senior, high-earning players following relegation.”
With financial limitations forcing Leicester to lean more on reliable, low-cost options, Choudhury might become a key figure in the Foxes’ midfield next season.
Harry Souttar’s Time at Leicester Appears to Be Over
Meanwhile, £15 million centre-back Harry Souttar looks increasingly likely to depart the club. Signed in 2023 with high expectations, the Australian international never truly found his footing under Brendan Rodgers or his successors.
Despite flashes of promise particularly his passing range and physicality seen during his Stoke City days Souttar struggled to establish himself at Leicester and was eventually loaned out. Injury has also hampered his progress, and now The Athletic reports he’s firmly on the list of potential departures.
“Souttar still has three years left on his contract, but it would take a remarkable change in fortune for him to come close to spending that time with Leicester.”
As the Foxes look to trim the wage bill and recalibrate their squad under new leadership, Souttar’s exit appears almost certain barring an unexpected turnaround.
