Rangers Suffer Major Transfer Setback as £9m Star’s Agent Rules Out Ibrox Return
Rangers have been handed a significant blow in their summer transfer plans, as hopes of bringing Vaclav Cerny back to Ibrox have been put on ice. The Czech international, who shone during his loan spell last season, is now unlikely to return to Glasgow.
The 27-year-old winger, loaned from Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, was one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Light Blues. Despite early discussions about a potential permanent deal, Rangers reportedly opted not to pursue the option to buy before the club’s ownership change involving American investors.
Agent Confirms No Talks with Rangers
Speaking on his client’s situation, Cerny’s agent David Nehoda revealed that there are currently no ongoing negotiations with Rangers for a permanent move. He clarified:
> “Vaclav will return to Wolfsburg in time for pre-season. At the moment, we are not in discussions with Rangers regarding an extension or new deal. No concrete offers have been made by any other club either. However, the transfer window is still open for a while, so options remain.”
Cerny Set to Fight for Place at Wolfsburg
Cerny is expected to link up with Wolfsburg’s squad under new head coach Paul Simonis. Despite being valued at £9 million, there appears to be no immediate move on the table, leaving his future uncertain as the transfer market heats up.
The winger made a strong impact at Rangers, starting 30 league matches and scoring 12 Scottish Premiership goals, along with six more in European competitions. Replacing that level of output will be a tall task for the club this summer, especially with financial limitations and ongoing restructuring.

Rangers fans will now be watching closely as the summer window unfolds, but for now, a Cerny return looks highly unlikely.
