Chris Kreider is headed west, joining the Anaheim Ducks after being traded by the New York Rangers a move that brings him back together with some familiar faces. Kreider, who spent his entire 13-year NHL career in New York, was dealt for 20-year-old prospect Carey Terrance and a swap of mid-round draft picks.

The transition to Anaheim will be softened by the presence of several former Rangers teammates. Notably, Ryan Strome, once Kreider’s carpool buddy in New York, is already with the Ducks. During a recent appearance on Light The Lamp with Ducks reporter Alexis Downie, Kreider was asked about his favorite carpool companion from his Rangers days a question sneakily submitted by Strome himself. Kreider jokingly acknowledged the setup, naming Strome as his favorite due to “recency bias.”

Beyond Strome, Kreider will also reunite with Jacob Trouba, who served as Rangers captain while Kreider was an alternate. Trouba was traded to Anaheim in December and brings not only strong leadership but a close friendship with Kreider.

“Jacob’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had,” Kreider said. “He’s also a terrific friend just a great person to talk to.”

Now 34, Kreider joins a young Ducks team still finding its footing. Alongside veterans like Trouba, he’s expected to bring leadership and experience that could guide and stabilize Anaheim’s youthful roster. Kreider described his leadership style as personal and humble, favoring one-on-one interactions to help teammates grow.
