The Buffalo Bills were actively seeking reinforcements for their secondary this offseason after a series of key departures over the past two years. The team had lost standout defensive backs Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde, Tre’Davious White, and Dane Jackson, which led to a noticeable decline in their pass defense during the 2024 season.
Although White and Jackson rejoined the team and safety Darrick Forest was added, Buffalo was still exploring ways to strengthen the unit. They ultimately selected Maxwell Hairston, a speedy cornerback out of Kentucky, with the 30th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
However, before making that selection, the Bills reportedly explored a significant trade. According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, Buffalo engaged in trade discussions with the Green Bay Packers centered around two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. The talks, however, did not result in a deal, and the Bills shifted their focus.
With Alexander recently released by the Packers after declining a restructured contract that would lower his $17 million salary it’s unclear if Buffalo will renew their interest. Despite investing a first-round pick in Hairston, the Bills had previously shown strong interest in the veteran defender.
Alexander, once considered one of the league’s top cover corners, has struggled with injuries, missing 20 games over the past two seasons. Still, his proven talent and playoff aspirations could make Buffalo an appealing destination if he’s willing to prioritize contention over a lucrative deal.
