After being designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves last week, veteran infielder Orlando Arcia has signed with the Colorado Rockies, according to a report from Daniel Álvarez of ElExtrabase. Arcia is expected to link up with the team during their current road trip in Chicago once the deal becomes official.
The 30-year-old Arcia is in his 10th MLB season. He began his career with the Milwaukee Brewers before being traded to the Braves in April 2021. He spent the past five seasons in Atlanta, highlighted by a breakout 2023 campaign in which he earned his first All-Star nod while posting career highs in home runs (17) and RBI (65). However, a hand injury limited him to just 14 games in 2025, where he struggled with a .194 batting average and no home runs.
Arcia’s arrival comes as the Rockies, who currently hold the league’s worst record at 9-45, continue to rebuild. While Ezequiel Tovar has shortstop locked down and is red-hot since returning from the injured list, second base remains unsettled. Arcia has previous experience at second base and in the outfield, giving Colorado flexibility.

With Thairo Estrada nearing a return from a wrist injury and top prospect Adael Amador struggling both offensively and defensively, Arcia could immediately step in at second base. Amador has posted a .151 batting average with three errors and a -5 defensive runs saved mark. Arcia, by contrast, has yet to commit an error this season.
While it’s unclear how long Arcia will hold the spot, especially with Estrada’s return looming, he seems poised to get playing time at second in the short term — offering a steady veteran presence on a struggling Rockies squad.
