Detroit Tigers center fielder Parker Meadows is officially on the comeback trail, beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo. Manager A.J. Hinch shared the news Monday on MLB Network Radio, confirming Meadows will take the field for the Mud Hens on May 20. It’s his first game action since suffering a freak injury on February 22 during Detroit’s Grapefruit League opener.

Why It Matters

Meadows was expected to be the Tigers’ everyday center fielder in 2025, but a right musculocutaneous nerve injury sidelined him for nearly three months. Now, with his rehab underway, Detroit hopes he can return healthy and contribute once again to their outfield mix.

Meadows’ 2024 Recap

Parker Meadows Injury Update Parker Meadows rehab assignment

Before the injury, Meadows quietly posted a solid rookie campaign:

  • 82 games played
  • .244 batting average
  • 9 home runs, 28 RBIs
  • 17 stolen bases
  • .743 OPS
  • 2.2 WAR

He combined speed, defense, and occasional power, providing value in multiple ways. Including his 2023 numbers, he owns a .241 average, 12 homers, and 17 steals over 119 games — impressive for a player who started 2024 in the minors before forcing his way into the big-league lineup.

Tigers’ Current Outlook

With the Tigers off to a 31–17 start and holding first place in the AL Central, there’s no urgent need to rush Meadows back especially with Javier Báez handling center field duties well. Still, Meadows’ return adds depth and versatility to the roster. Whether as a fourth outfielder, pinch runner, or late-game defensive sub, he gives Detroit options.

The Bottom Line

Meadows returning to action is a positive sign for the Tigers. There’s no set date for his MLB return, but if he performs well in Toledo, he could rejoin the big-league club soon — potentially giving Detroit another boost as they look to stay atop the division.
