After generating plenty of excitement in spring training and making the Opening Day roster, Chicago Cubs prospect Matt Shaw got his first taste of the majors in dramatic fashion traveling with the team to Japan to face the Dodgers in the Tokyo Series. However, his big-league debut didn’t go as planned, and by mid-April, Shaw was sent back to Triple-A to regroup.

Rather than let the setback derail him, Shaw used his time in the minors to refine his swing and improve his overall game knowing he’d likely get another opportunity. That moment has arrived, as the Cubs have officially recalled Shaw from Triple-A Iowa, according to CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson.

Matt Shaw Earns Second Call-Up After Dominating in Triple-A

The decision to bring Shaw back to the majors comes on the heels of a powerful hot streak, where he launched four home runs in just three games. But it wasn’t just a short burst of offense Shaw has been consistently raking at the plate, posting a red-hot .338/.437/.676 slash line with six home runs and 14 RBIs over his last 19 Triple-A appearances.

Ranked as MLB’s No. 18 overall prospect, Shaw is once again getting the chance to prove he belongs at the big-league level and this time, he appears far more prepared to seize the moment.
