As the Dallas Cowboys gear up for the 2025 NFL season—bolstered by the acquisition of wide receiver George Pickens and the return of a healthy Dak Prescott it’s a different Cowboys quarterback making headlines: former star QB and current CBS broadcaster Tony Romo.
While Romo is preparing for another season in the broadcast booth, where he earns around $20 million annually, his political stance is drawing renewed attention. Although known primarily for his football commentary, Romo has made his political leanings known over the years, often sparking debate among fans.
Romo has a personal connection to Donald Trump, having played golf with the former president. Trump has publicly complimented Romo’s golfing skills, once saying, “He may be a better golfer than a football player.”
Their relationship dates back years, with Trump praising Romo after a 2015 injury, calling it a major loss for the Cowboys and describing Romo as a “great guy” and “great football player.”
Romo has also attended the White House Correspondents Dinner as a Fox News guest and has expressed interest in Republican politics. Additionally, he’s previously spoken highly of former President George W. Bush, calling him “one of the greatest human beings you’ll ever meet,” which prompted criticism from some viewers.
While Romo continues to be a prominent figure at CBS, there has been speculation about his long-term future in broadcasting, especially following the network’s promotion of J.J. Watt to its No. 2 analyst role. Nevertheless, Romo’s off-field views and affiliations keep him in the spotlight, even as he remains focused on football coverage.
