The Detroit Lions have crafted a dynamic passing attack led by slot receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and explosive playmaker Jameson Williams. Yet, veteran wideout Kalif Raymond has quietly contributed as well, even if he doesn’t draw as much attention.
However, an insider predicts Raymond’s time with the Lions may soon end. Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report listed Raymond among potential cuts this summer, especially if the team needs to clear salary cap space.
Though Raymond may not be widely known outside Detroit, he’s been a reliable player, exceeding 480 receiving yards for three consecutive seasons before his role lessened in 2024. With younger receivers rising up the depth chart, Raymond’s spot could be at risk.
Knox highlighted that Tim Patrick has emerged as the Lions’ third wide receiver behind St. Brown and Williams, and the team re-signed Patrick before adding rookies Isaac TeSlaa and Dominic Lovett in the draft. Raymond’s value as a punt returner might save him for now, but if another return specialist steps up, the Lions could free $3.6 million by releasing the 30-year-old.
Rookie TeSlaa, the Lions’ second-round pick, is viewed as a promising multi-phase player. GM Brad Holmes praised his size, speed, catching ability, and special teams contributions, especially his run blocking.
Assistant GM Ray Agnew also noted TeSlaa’s impressive blocking skills and toughness, saying the rookie has the potential to develop into a key player.
A Michigan native and lifelong Lions fan, TeSlaa called joining the team a dream come true and expressed excitement about learning the offense and making plays.
