The Baltimore Orioles announced today that manager Brandon Hyde has been relieved of his duties following a disappointing start to the 2025 season. In addition, Major League Field Coordinator Tim Cossins has also been let go.
Third base coach Tony Mansolino will serve as interim manager. Mansolino brings prior managerial experience from his time in Cleveland’s minor league system. Robinson Chirinos will continue in his current coaching role.
With a 15-28 record and a string of on-field mistakes—highlighted by a sloppy performance last night—the Orioles’ struggles have made Hyde’s dismissal seem increasingly inevitable. While many acknowledge Hyde’s strong character and passion for the game, questions lingered about his ability to steer the club out of its current slump.
Hyde, who took over in 2019 during a full rebuild, compiled a 421-492 record over seven seasons. He led the Orioles to three straight winning seasons from 2022 to 2024, during which the team went 275-211 and returned to postseason contention.
General Manager Mike Elias said in a statement that the team’s poor start is his responsibility, and that the decision to make leadership changes reflects a need to chart a new direction. Elias expressed gratitude for Hyde’s dedication and acknowledged his role in reviving the franchise.
Orioles owner David Rubenstein also praised Hyde’s leadership and contributions to both the team and the city of Baltimore. While calling the decision difficult, Rubenstein emphasized that change is sometimes necessary in professional sports.
The Orioles continue their series against the Washington Nationals this afternoon at 4 p.m., now under new leadership as they look to regroup and salvage their season.
