The Las Vegas Raiders have taken major steps forward this offseason under new leadership, with GM John Spytek and head coach Pete Carroll initiating a full roster overhaul after a disappointing four-win season. Despite several improvements, one key need remains: a proven starting cornerback.

Jakorian Bennett showed promise last season but struggled with injuries, and the rest of the secondary is either inexperienced or untested. As a result, trade rumors have linked the Raiders to Miami Dolphins star cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

While Ramsey remains one of the most respected defensive backs in the league, there are several hurdles preventing a potential trade. Raiders insider Vincent Bonsignore of The Las Vegas Review-Journal addressed the speculation, noting concerns over Ramsey’s fit with the team.

“He’s already been traded twice, and the Dolphins appear ready to move on,” Bonsignore said. “Ramsey turns 31 in October, has dealt with a knee injury, and any team acquiring him would be responsible for $21 million in cash this season. That’s a hefty price for a player at this stage of his career.”

Though Ramsey would undoubtedly improve the Raiders’ defense, the high cost and his age may not align with the team’s long-term rebuilding strategy. Carroll and Spytek seem focused on developing a younger, sustainable core rather than investing heavily in aging veterans.

The Raiders may still look to add depth to their secondary, but a pricey veteran like Ramsey likely won’t be part of their plans — especially with so many financial and durability concerns attached. Instead, the coaching staff may opt to let their young talent grow through experience, even if it comes with growing pains in the short term.
