Former NFL Player Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Girlfriend’s Murder

As the Las Vegas Raiders gear up for the 2025 NFL season with a fresh leadership duo in Pete Carroll and Geno Smith, troubling news has emerged about a former player associated with the team. Kevin Ware Jr., a one-time NFL tight end who briefly signed with the Raiders but never played in a game, has received a 30-year prison sentence for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski.

Pomaski was reported missing in May 2021, weeks after attending a party at Ware’s residence in the Klein area of Texas. Witnesses described a violent altercation between the two, and friends said Pomaski had voiced fear for her safety shortly before disappearing. Her remains were later discovered in a ditch in Harris County in December 2021.

Court documents detailed that Ware violently attacked Pomaski—stabbing, beating, and strangling her before setting her body on fire. He had fled authorities after her disappearance and was arrested by U.S. Marshals in 2021. In a plea deal, Ware admitted to the murder and accepted a 30-year sentence. Pomaski’s family is expected to deliver statements during sentencing proceedings.

Ware previously played college football at the University of Washington and had short stints with the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers. Though he signed with the Raiders, he never appeared in a game for the team.
