Following a strong NFL Draft and productive free agency period, the Chicago Bears are being seen as a team ready to take the next step. However, concerns about depth at the running back position remain, and NFL analysts suggest that signing free agent J.K. Dobbins could be the finishing touch to a complete roster.
On NFL Network, analyst Jeffri Chadiha advocated for Dobbins to join the Bears, calling offensive coordinator Ben Johnson the ideal coach to maximize the former Ohio State star’s talent.
“Ben Johnson is extremely innovative,” Chadiha said. “Dobbins flashed real potential last year — he could be a game-changer. This move would make perfect sense for Chicago.”
NFL veteran analyst Brian Baldinger agreed, stating Dobbins could bring a much-needed boost to the Bears’ backfield.
“At 26 and coming off his best season, J.K. can inject energy and playmaking into their run game — something the Bears need,” Baldinger said.
Despite already having D’Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, and rookie Kyle Monangai, the Bears’ backfield still has question marks. With Johnson and Monangai still growing into their roles and Swift’s health always a factor, Dobbins could offer immediate impact and veteran leadership.
Chicago has made smart, deliberate moves this offseason, and bringing in Dobbins — who rushed for over 900 yards last season and has a solid track record from his Big Ten days — is being viewed as a high-reward, low-risk addition.
Even after recent draft acquisitions, adding a reliable veteran like Dobbins would support the team’s long-term goals and offer valuable support to younger players.
As the Bears continue to redefine their identity with explosive talent, the spotlight is now on general manager Ryan Poles. Signing Dobbins could be the final piece in a transformative offseason for the franchise.
